Some tips to help you prefect tan with a home spray tan machine:

Exfoliate: You will get a splotchy look even with the finest tanners if the dead skin cells are not scrubbed off first. It is best to use an oil-free exfoliator as oil can prevent penetration of the tanner.

Preparation: Remove any deodorant on you as it can react with the tanner, turning your underarms green for the short time. Hair should be pulled away from the face and wear a shower cap. Moisturizer should be applied on the eyebrows to safeguard them from turning orange. Apply a thin layer of body lotion on your hands, elbows, heels and feet so that the tanner is not absorbed by the dry areas.

Work on: To avoid creating uncanny tan lines while bending begin with your lower part of the body. The can should be held a minimum of eight inches away from the body. Spray in a steady, slow and even up to down motion from your thighs to calves to feet. Less tanner can be used for the ankles and feet, as skin here is more absorbent as compared to your legs.

Get in the middle: For back and front of your torso spray in three sections, first in the middle then each side. Be light between the breasts as typically the skin here is superabsorbent due to constant bra friction. Then go for the arms, slow under the armpits, as tan here will be naturally lighter. Wrists should be sprayed very lightly, to make sure that it doesn’t give the look of wearing tan gloves.

On the Face: Spray your face lightly in parts rather than covering the whole face at one go.  Top of the hand should be taken last and finally, mist the inner wrists. To complete the whole process, use a dry cloth to wipe your nails.

Dress up: When you are dry, wear dark and loose clothes as the tanner can rub off a little initially for eight hours. In case any part of the body looks dark after that, rub some lemon on it.
